The Human Rights, Conflict & Peace Initiative is a student initiative at The Graduate Institute, Geneva that aims to increase the awareness of human rights and conflict and peace related issues from across the globe.

The Gender, Peace and Security Coalition of the Graduate Institute is a student-run coalition committed to facilitating a space for discussion about the way in which gender is or should be conceptualized in the context of peace and security.

Black Conversations (BC) is a student organization created by Black students for Black students within Geneva. It was officially launched in January of 2020, by Diandra Dillon and Teathloach ‘Teal’ Nguot. The primary aim is to provide a safe space to facilitate Black thought.

The Initiative for Detainees (ID), is a student initiative, part of the Graduate Institute Student Association (GISA), launched in October 2018 to further links between prisoners and the rest of society

The Migration Initiative aims to catalyse student and community engagement with migrants in Geneva, as well as across the world including places like Lesvos, Idomeni and Calais.

The Water initiative aims to raise awareness around water related issues and provide students and young professionals with information on research and career opportunities in the field of water governance, water diplomacy and natural resource management.

The Lafayette Society is the Institute’s premier student initiative which creates an environment for debates on global issues linked to liberal democracy and their application to policy in the 21st century. The Society is reigniting an old Institute tradition this spring semester: a public student-led debate hosted by the Graduate Institute from the Ivan Pictet Auditorium to International Geneva and eventually the world.

China and East Asia Studies (CEAS) Initiative is a recently founded (October 2020) students’ initiative that provides an open academic platform for research and debate on contemporary issues about China, East Asia and the world. Engaging people from all backgrounds interested in this discipline, CEAS strives to mobilize academic and social resources to facilitate academic activities concerning China and East Asia from an inclusive perspective. 

The Global Health Initiative provides a platform and a community for the IHEID students and alumni from various professional and educational backgrounds with an interest and passion for global health topics, where different stakeholders come together and collaborate on innovative projects related to health.

Women in Econ Léman is a joint initiative by PhD students in economics from the Graduate Institute, the University of Geneva, the University of Lausanne and EPFL. Women in Econ Léman aims to kick-off a broad conversation about how systemic gender biases affect women as a community of economic researchers.

The Macro-Development Research Initiative aims to research, analyze, debate, and disseminate information related to development with an interdisciplinary perspective. MDRI wants to help develop the professional and leadership skills and the human potential of future young leaders through the research and analysis of the social issues that are at hand today
